Portable household humidifiers do not have an ENERGY STAR specification; the ENERGY STAR humidity category covers dehumidifiers. Whole-home humidifiers are not ENERGY STAR labeled on their own, though they are often paired with ENERGY STAR HVAC equipment. If a supplier claims an ‘ENERGY STAR humidifier,’ ask which specification and which certified model number — for most portable units there is none.

Which humidifier type is the most energy-efficient?
Cool-mist ultrasonic models are usually the most efficient for a single room because mist is produced by a vibrating disc — typically 20–45 W. Evaporative models add a fan (50–130 W) and warm-mist models heat water (200 W and above). The number to compare is efficiency per liter of mist delivered, not the sticker wattage alone.
What certifications should an imported humidifier carry?
