What Is Humidification Rate (ml/h)? A Simple Explanation

Humidification rate is the amount of moisture a humidifier releases into the air per hour, measured in milliliters per hour (ml/h). It is the core metric for a humidifier’s humidifying capacity.

Recommended Humidification Rates by Scenario

| Scenario | Recommended rate | Notes | |———|———–|——| | Desk/workstation | 100-200ml/h | Covers your personal breathing zone | | Bedroom (10-15㎡) | 200-300ml/h | Maintains comfort all night | | Living room (20-30㎡) | 300-500ml/h | Needs broader coverage | | Whole home/large space | 500ml/h or more | Floor humidifier |

Is a Higher Humidification Rate Always Better?

No. In a desktop setting, a rate above 200ml/h can cause:

  • A damp, wet desktop
  • Paper that absorbs moisture and goes soft
  • Discomfort from over-humidification
  • The ideal indoor humidity is 40%-60%. Above 60%, you’re actually more likely to grow mold.

Humidification Rate and Water Tank Capacity

100ml/h × an 8-hour workday = at least an 800ml tank. In practice, choose a 1.5-2L tank so you don’t have to refill several times a day. Bottom line: 100-200ml/h is plenty for a desktop; bigger isn’t better — matching the scenario is what matters.
