What is AQL inspection for humidifiers?

AQL, or acceptable quality limit, is a sampling scheme: instead of inspecting every unit, the buyer draws a defined sample from the lot and accepts or rejects the whole lot based on the number of defects found. The limit is set per defect class, so a cosmetic scratch and a leaking tank are judged against different thresholds. An inspection plan states the sample size, the acceptance and rejection numbers, and the defect definitions.

How should humidifier defects be classified?

Classify by consequence, not appearance. Critical defects create a safety or legal risk, such as a live-part exposure or a missing protective device. Major defects make the product fail its function or shorten its life, such as a leak, unstable output, or a cracked tank. Minor defects affect appearance or convenience without impairing use. For a water-and-electricity appliance, anything that leaks, overheats, or exposes a conductor belongs in the higher classes however small it looks.

Where should inspection points be placed?

At multiple points rather than once at the end. Incoming material checks catch a wrong resin, gasket, or motor; in-process checks on the atomization or heating stage catch a build fault before it multiplies; final inspection on the packed lot is the buyer’s gate; and a pre-shipment check confirms the goods that leave match the goods that passed. How should an inspection plan be written?

State the defect classes and their definitions, the sample size for each lot band, the acceptance and rejection numbers per class, the visual and functional standards, and the report format. Reference the test methods behind any measured criterion, so a result is reproducible. Both sides should sign the plan before the first lot, because the document is what makes an inspection result a decision rather than a discussion.

How does inspection data reduce defects?

Only when each rejected lot carries a corrective action. A repeat defect class signals a systemic build issue that needs a process change; a rising minor count signals drift or tool wear that needs maintenance; a sample sitting near the limit signals a process that is not capable and needs tightening. Ask for the action behind each rejection, because a supplier that only inspects more will keep shipping the same defect.

How does sampling relate to process stability?

Sampling assumes the lot is broadly uniform, so it works poorly on an intermittently unstable process. When a supplier’s capability is unknown, tightened sampling on the first lots buys information, and a documented result from those lots is what justifies relaxing to standard sampling. The aim is a plan that shrinks over time as defects are designed and processed out.
